Serve

..."Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of one of these who are members of my family, you did it to me."

- Matthew 25:40

Emmaus Cafe

In 2000, looking for a way to live out our mission as a downtown church, FPC learned that the Muscatine community did not offer any free weekend meals after Saturday noon, and Emmaus Cafe was formed to ensure access to a free hot meal 7 days a week in Muscatine. For 23 years and counting, thanks to the dedication of meal planners, eight sets of rotating crew chiefs, and hundreds of church and community volunteers, FPC has served a free noon lunch in our Fellowship Hall, missing only two Sundays - once due to an ice storm and the other due to a power outage.  Grab and go lunches were offered during Covid-19. Since its inception, Emmaus Cafe has served 30 -80 meals each Sunday. Emmaus Cafe relies heavily on food and monetary donations from hunters and a variety of community organizations, including Faith United Church of Christ and Rock Valley Physical Therapy.

Sleep in Heavenly Peace Bed Build

Our church sponsored a Sleep in Heavenly Peace bed build on March 24, 2024, with 40 volunteers assembling 20 beds to support SHP Muscatine's mission of providing a bed for every child in Muscatine.

Affordable Housing

FPC collaborates with Muscatine Center for Social Action on affordable housing initiatives in Muscatine.  Initially we challenged other churches and the community to a matching grant campaign.  That enabled us to partner with volunteers from our congregation and the community as well as local contractors. So far we have refurbished  four apartments and are currently working on two homes that will house larger families.

Worldwide mission support

FPC supports Mission Starfish Haiti through our prayers and financial support. Many of our members sponsor children at the MSH school. In 2015 and 2017, church members and friends visited Gonaives, Haiti, where we played with the school children, assisted with after school crafts, led a basketball tournament, poured concrete floors in community homes, served a community meal, painted classrooms, distributed rice to community members, and much more!
FPC also supports Pasrur Boys School in Pakistan and PRECE Education Project in Brazil through our prayers and mission giving.

Trunk or Treat

In October, on the Sunday before Halloween, we open our church parking lot to the children of our community for Trunk or Treat, where church members and friends decorate their trunk and handout treats and a light lunch to children of our church and the community.
